Cajun born, country raised, television educated, and geek to the core!
Hi, I’m Chris Hamby, a self-proclaimed General Purpose Geek from Nashville, Tennessee — Cajun born, country raised, television educated, and geek to the core.
I came into the world in Shreveport, Louisiana, and even though I moved around a lot as a kid, that Cajun spirit of creativity, resourcefulness, and hospitality stuck with me. I’ve always believed that good food, good company, and a good challenge can fix almost anything. My family eventually settled in small-town Tennessee, where I grew up surrounded by tools, wires, and the kind of DIY attitude that makes you figure things out whether you have the manual or not. That small-town work ethic — hands-on, humble, and hard-working — is still the foundation of how I approach every project today. My grandparents ran the local cable service, which meant I was constantly around TV gear, signal testers, and the organized chaos of broadcast work long before I ever drew a paycheck from it. It’s probably no coincidence that I ended up in television IT — that world shaped my curiosity for how technology connects people. Whether it’s coding, conventions, or card games, I’ve always believed being a geek means more than fandom — it’s about passion, learning, and sharing what you love with others. That mindset carries through everything I do, from solving network problems to mentoring volunteers or tinkering with new scripts late into the night.
My love for technology started long before I ever sat behind a help desk or wrote my first line of code. Growing up around cables and TV equipment, I learned early to take things apart, figure out how they worked, and make them work better.
Today, I work as an IT Services Engineer at NewsChannel5, solving technical puzzles that keep a broadcast operation running smoothly. I focus on smart, simple solutions that make life easier for end users and production teams.
I’m a digital problem solver — part engineer, part tinkerer, and part translator between humans and machines. My work sits at the crossroads of systems, software, and creativity.
Technology should make life easier, not harder. I build solutions that are reliable, efficient, and intuitive — tools that work so smoothly people forget they're even using them.
I’ve worked across broadcast engineering, enterprise systems, and web platforms — always focusing on projects that solve clear problems for real people.

Automates school-closing data from FTP into on-air graphical county maps, reducing manual updates during severe weather.
Each project taught me something new about technology, teamwork, and the people who rely on both. I treat every challenge as an opportunity to create something useful, reliable, and maybe a little unexpected.
Technology is best when it brings people together. My volunteer work grew from guest check-ins to directing IT for ArtsCubed, where I helped build the technical backbone of local fandom events.
At GMX I started on staff handling guest and vendor check-ins. As the events grew, I became Director of IT for ArtsCubed (MTAC & GMX), managing website hosting, emails, and online assets. I designed an interactive floor-map system to help staff and vendors locate booths, track availability, and manage live changes during events.
Those experiences reinforced a simple idea: good technology enables community — it helps people create, connect, and enjoy shared experiences.
“Chris is an innovator with deep understanding of practical use cases. He also demonstrated the equitably necessary when trusted with the responsibility of organizational tech — leveling up for everyone, not just a pet project here or there. Add in his focus on security of resources with the good of the company as his first priority, and he truly set the bar high in his role.” — Lucas Leverett, President, ArtsCubed
I’m always exploring new tools and refining old ones. Lately I’ve focused on C++, automation, and refining systems that combine data and usability.
If anything here sparks an idea or a collaboration, I’d love to hear from you. I’m always open to connecting — tech, community projects, or board game recs.
